And now the truth may be trickling out. The American Spectator is reporting knowledge of the forgeries may go all the way up to the upper echelons of the DNC and the Kerry Campaign.
“More than six weeks ago, an opposition research staffer for the Democratic National Committee received documents purportedly written by President George W. Bush’s Texas Air National Guard squadron commander, the late Col. Jerry Killian.
The oppo researcher claimed the source was “a retired military officer.” According to a DNC staffer, the documents were seen by both senior staff members at the DNC, as well as the Kerry campaign.”
But go and read the article !
Waits…….whistles chalantly……has a coke and a smile…..steals a kiss from True Blue…
Now, what happens next? If this is true, and at this point I have little doubt that it is anything but true, many have said any number of things could be the round which sinks the Kerry Konvoy ™ , but this my friends, is it!
This would be a forgery of a federal document. And a (indirectly due to CBS originally reporting about same on national television) known attempt by an individual or group of individuals to, through fraud and deceit, directly influence a federal election. That is just two charges I can come up with, using little effort.
CBS, perhaps along with Dan Rather, by not taking all reasonable measures to vett the papers, in their rush to get the story on the air, are perhaps guilty of slander if nothing else. What’s for certain, is “CBS” and “credible journalism” are three words which will not be seen together any time soon.
And the blogsphere, though only briefly mentioned by the media at large, is the single largest factor in this story gaining the traction and coverage it has received. Congratulations to Bill at INDC , Powerline , LGF , and others far too many to name, for all the great work you have done to get this story out of the darkness and into the light of day.
As noted, Nightline had this as part of their show tonight (though Ted Koppel was hedging a bit at the start). Drudge has carried this for a good part of the day. Hannity commented as well, and both Washington Papers have articles published. But the American Spectator, to the best of my knowledge, is the first major publication to run any information as to where the documents came from and how they get to CBS.
I wonder if Kerry remembers (perhaps it was seared into his memory) the drill for abandon ship, I think he is gonna need it.
