Ve Haf Ways of Making You Balk!!

Got the heads up for the following from my better half. She is as sick and tired about this as I am, but not nearly as passionate in her feelings toward what is going on. Nice that at least one of us is a bit calmer in facing the coming storm.

Anyhow, from the same folks who we are hoping will put a stop to the upcoming “Cap-n-Trade” legislation, the U.S. Senate, comes this.

Americans who refuse to buy affordable medical coverage could be hit with fines of more than $1,000 under a health care overhaul bill unveiled Thursday by key Senate Democrats looking to fulfill President Barack Obama’s top domestic priority.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated the fines will raise around $36 billion over 10 years. Senate aides said the penalties would be modeled on the approach taken by Massachusetts, which now imposes a fine of about $1,000 a year on individuals who refuse to get coverage. Under the federal legislation, families would pay higher penalties than individuals.

In a revamped health care system envisioned by lawmakers, people would be required to carry health insurance just like motorists must get auto coverage now. The government would provide subsidies for the poor and many middle-class families, but those who still refuse to sign up would face penalties.

Called “shared responsibility payments,” the fines would be set at least half the cost of basic medical coverage, according to the legislation.

So if I understand this, if, for whatever reason, I elect (or my family elects) not to buy medical insurance (be it from the government or private insurer) I will be subject to fines??? Yes, technically there is still “a choice”. You can either pay OR you can be fined (and I imagine face possible jail time.) We are going to be dictated to as to what we will do regarding our management of our personal health issues.

Let’s take this a couple of steps further. Just supposing I am no longer able to afford private insurance due to medical conditions (either past or present). And don’t feel the need to acquire any as I (again, for what ever reasons) feel I am currently in good health or in such dire straights that it is no longer worth my wile . But this is not to the liking of my government!!! YOU must conform!!

So I don’t. And I am fined. Here is a thought, if this is a federal program/requirement, by “breaking this law”, have i just committed a felony, and if guilty, have just lost my right to bear arms and to vote? (What a great way to get rid of some of those pesky conservatives/constitutionalists!!)

Does this incursion into your private affairs (your freedom of choice), open the door to other legislation (should this pass)? To the four or five folks who read this bit of fluff, what do you think??

If this doesn’t sound like fascisim lite (or dictatorship 101) I don’t know what is.

Wow….this is just like Germany. My German neighbor extolled about her free healthcare, but then told me that she has to pay 300 Euro a month for her and her 3 girls, or get a heavy fine from the government, subject to jailtime, even.

Keep in mind she makes about 1200 Euro a month for a family of four. And 300 HAS to go into the “free healthcare”…

Right before we came back, she was scheduled for a tonsilectomy. She had to wait two months for the consult, and seven months for the actual operation. But it was “free”….

    God help us all.

“The Admiral” has a number of friends on facebook who are from outside the states, and they all comment about the healthcare situation where they reside, as being anything but satisfactory. We are in for some very rough sailing.
