Signs of the Times

null

The “commentary” bordering the picture, misses the point, probably intentionally. The fact is, and the majority of those who are, or have served, already know and understand this…the “Sign”, held by the serviceman, is absolutely correct.

Ok, you may have initially signed up, to see the world, or get a “free education”, learn a skill…or any of the other reasons one is given to join by their respective recruiters. Still, at the end of the day…especially after you’ve finished Basic Training/Boot Camp…you know the bottom line is you are serving the needs of the Navy, Army, Air Force, or Marines. You are there to SERVE your country.

One of the first things you learned (at least it was this way 30 some odd years ago, back when I was a boot) was that the constitution was no longer your “protector”…that the bill of rights was not what covered your butt. The UCMJ took the place of same. And though it mirrored it, there were (and still are) some fundamental differences. One of them being, that you could NOT besmirch your Commander in Chief. Nor could you (at the very least while in uniform…but not necessarily exclusive to that point) speak out publicly against our military actions (in their planning stages or otherwise).

Bottom line…if you feel that strongly about what the current administration is doing, or is planning to do, there are proper channels in which to address these concerns. Indeed, if the actions ARE of an unconstitutional nature/blatantly illegal, one would expect a large chunk of the military to go up the chain of command with their grievances. But you had better have your ducks in a row…cause it isn’t going to be a cake walk.

Your other options, quite frankly, are to see if you meet the requirements for some sort of Administrative discharge, or if you are eligible, submit your papers for retirement. Any of these three choices are far superior to taking the cowards way out…of hiding your face behind a piece of paper….

A Call to Arms

I was over at Liberty’s Torch Fran Porretto’s home on the web today. His most recent post is one which in today’s climate one might have considered asking “Do you really want to plant your flag on that hill?”

Ok, you might ask that question if you were a metro sexual left leaning weeny, followed by something along the lines of “Can’t we just get along?”

Rest assured, you won’t find anyone here asking that kinda thing…

Anyhow, back to the good Mr. Porretto’s post. I came away with a feeling that he has reached saturation IRT to the insipid followers and fellow travelers to the current administration. (And one assumes, with the current administration as well.) To that end he has fired full broadside on one of the same who happened to comment over at Breitbart Big Government. With his kind permission, it reads as fallows:

I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for.” – Howard Dean.

You are the enemy.
You are not benevolent.
Your first goal is to disarm us.
Your second goal is to eliminate privacy.
Your third goal is to criminalize our opinions.
You want power for yourselves, and nothing else.
You believe yourselves entitled to rule us absolutely.
You routinely wish for the deaths of conservative figures.
You would have us forcibly “re-educated,” if you could pull it off.
You are trying to destroy all remaining restraints on the federal government.
You’re doing everything you can to criminalize disagreement with your agenda.
You accuse your political opponents of every foul crime and motivation in the book.
And you do it with a contemptuous smirk that says “You can’t stop us no matter what you do.”

I tried to grant you the presumption of integrity.
I can’t. You’ve forfeited all claim to decency or benign purpose.
The only difference between you and the Communists of North Korea is your skin tone.
From here to the end of my life, I will do all in my power to have you seen for what you really are.
Not decent people with different opinions about what’s best, or what means are acceptable.
Not persons agonized over America’s residuum of violence, or poverty, or racism.
Not neighbors peacefully willing to agree to disagree with other Americans.
You are none of those things.
You are the enemy.
You are villains.
Traitors.

It is my belief that we have just been issued a “call to arms”. And I would have to agree with all that he said. My only thought is it fails to include just about every one else in the political arena. There are but a handful of folks who seek to see this country return to something akin to what the forefathers envisioned some 230 odd years ago. With all due respect Fran, ya only broadsided half the bastards.

And by all means go look at the original.  It strikes me (and others, in his comments) that the original layout looks very much like a pennant.  Perhaps someone with strong photoshop or gimp skills could fit the above into a pennant.  Might make for a dandy addition to one’s flag pole … right under the Gadsden flag.

Change

Most everyone is saying change is a coming. Doesn’t matter which side of the political fence you are on, one way or another, things are not going to remain the same.

It has been a long time in coming, but as noted here, and elsewhere, it is not like we haven’t seen that the path we were on was not going to lead us to anywhere but where we are right now. There is no need to go into details…you are either well aware of what persons, actions, incidents, or combinations of all the above brought us here; or you are blissfully unaware … following the capricious winds of chance and fate … letting them take you where they will. After all, your “mom and dad” are in the White House, and if you haven’t grown up by now, at the very least thinking about taking something akin to taking responsibility for yourself and your actions, why on earth should you start now. Thinking is soooo 20th century.

So here we are, halfway through the first quarter of the 21st century. The people have been conditioned enough to believe it is the duty of their government (there is that pesky “mom and dad” thing again) to grant their every wish. Free health care? Poof! There ya go, no problem! Want your particular race, religion, creed, and or gender to be considered not merely equal, to what was once “the norm”, but given preferential treatment or status. (Does anyone in the business of mental health and or the study of man/civilizations even consider there to be a “norm” anymore? A bar or standard set to which all else was measured … and heaven forbid perhaps being found to be different, or worse. wanting?)

The language is being dissected to the point where, for any number of reasons, clarity of thought presented via the printed page, is allowed … demanded, to be muddled. Words are banned from use. (Even if they have been used quite correctly up to this point. Try using the word “niggardly“, properly, in conversation and see what happens.) Those not banned are at any given time, bent and messaged to suit the needs of the player (mis)using them.

But enough is enough. The story nears it’s end. The country I grew up in, the values, spirit, and most of the underpinnings which kept it all together, are either long gone or have become discarded rusted out relics. Whatever happens next to the country at large, or various parts of this country, may be commented on here, but there will not be any major pontificating. Certainly there will be no hard and fast information about my preparations (or lack thereof) against the coming storm. The internet is not, and never has been a place of private fire-side chats. All the world can see what has been said (or shown) with little or no effort. The governments need even less to pry.

One last thought before closing this particular rant.

California Murderer Cop, A Staunch Democrat, Clinton and Feinstein supporter!

Perhaps the place of “home grown media” is to be the one(s) who trail just behind the journalistic Caesars, whispering in their collective ears; “Respice post te! Hominem te memento!” (Look behind you! Remember that you are but a man!”). And here again is a case of the media giants freely editing a story in order to meet their own agendas, the facts be damned. The real irony here; those on the net are doing what the media was tasked to do. Keep an eye and an ear on those in power, and pass this along to the public in order that we would know (and hopefully, remember) their excesses, and abuses of power and privilege … along with their successes…when it came time to place our ballets.

Now we have to monitor the monitors.

None Dare Call It Islam … a reflection on a day, ten years after.

I tried to write something in honor of the day, in honor of the fallen, in honor of those who have given that “last full measure of devotion” since September 11, 2001. But it just won’t come.

The words don’t fail me. There are plenty of words. The images don’t fail me. They have permanent residence in my memories, perhaps a bit dusty after ten years, but when brought to the fore into the light, they regain their power to evoke a right and proper response and sense of outrage.

It is a sense of melancholy. A case of retrospect remorse.

Not for what we did, and have done since this day, ten years ago. But for what we have not.

It has been labeled “The War On Terror”, yet even from the start, we have been quite selective in whom we engage, or where we project our military might and assets.

Some have called it “A War for Oil”, addressing the resource most readily available throughout the regin where the roots of this war reside. Those folks would be wrong. (Have you seen the price of crude lately, or what a gallon of gas is going for?)

Francis Porretto, over at Eternity Road, remembers. Neither of us has forgotten what happened that day. But perhaps of even more importance, a decade after this nation was struck with a gauntlet wielded by the Muslim malignancy known as Islam, Fran continues to address that which we should have been at war with since day one … Islam.

“We are at war with Islam. We’ve been at war with Islam for forty-one years. Let’s get serious about it.”
Source: Eternity Road, Ten Years After

And he is correct. The sooner we honestly address … put the right and proper name to the evil we are facing; the sooner we elect to seriously take the fight directly to our enemy; to prosecute this war, as one we fully intend to win, then and only then will there be an honest reckoning for those who fell ten years ago today. Then and only then, will there be something akin to a squaring of accounts for the Marines lost in a barracks in Lebanon, Sailors killed and scared from the USS Cole, Spirits, and perhaps lost souls which still haunt Lockerbie…this being just a sample, from a list much longer.

Remember September 11, 2001. Never Forget.

More importantly, remember the root cause of same. Give that evil its right and proper name. Resolve to fight this evil with all your heart and soul. For it wants nothing more than to devour yours.

UN, up in arms?

**BUMPED**  (see update at bottom of post)

Transcribed from Associated Press article …
“The morning after” usually refers to what one deals with after a night out with the boys. You wake up with an uneasy feeling in your gut, a strong sense of dislike toward any noise above the sound of dust landing on the floor, and an aversion to the light of day.

This was just such a morning for the American people. Today should have given us the name of the next President of the United States. Instead, we are faced with the prospect of having, a nation not only under martial law, but for the first time since Franklin Delano Roosevelt, a sitting President, who in all likelihood will begin his third term in office next January 20th.

Surprisingly, the posting of UN backed troops at the majority of major polling places throughout the country, had not been met with major outbreaks of violence. The voting process was orderly. American citizens across the country proceeded to cast their votes, in much the same fashion as had been done over the last generation or so.

There were no exit polls allowed, and the media fully complied with FCC backed UN mandates, that the outcome of the election would not be “pre-forcasted” in any manner. It was understood this was considered the best way to keep any rioting, by either side, to a minimum.

“If they don’t know whether or not their respective candidate is winning, or loosing, than passions should not rise to the boiling point.”, said the U.S. liaison to the UN monitoring team.

The real surprise came early this morning. It was determined, due to the extreme closeness of the popular vote, with less then half a percent difference between the two candidates, that it would be more prudent to allow the sitting President to continue his stay in the office, until such time as either the country at large was on a better footing economically, or there was a sufficiently pronounced majority … “that the public had clearly spoken”, to quote President Obama, as to allow for a formal vote to be taken again.

When asked by one of the press corps reporters, as to why the electoral college, and the resulting electoral votes were not honored as providing a “clear winner” in yesterday’s election, the President replied with, “It is long past time we retired that old horse. The American People have increasingly demanded that the President be appointed by a direct popular vote. I fully intend that the voice of the people regarding this, is finally heard. To this end, by executive order…signed last night… I have abolished the Electoral college, electoral votes, and voting.”

Neither candidate for the Presidency was available for comment.

Blake and Tom had been meeting for morning coffee at “Ruth’s Dinner”, for years. This morning was no different. Sitting at their usual spot, coffee at the ready, both men had taken turns reading the AP article. Blake looked at his friend, and said,

“Remember back in 2012, when the Senate ratified the UN Small Arms Treaty? Most folks thought it would all blow over. After all, how could they confiscate the millions of guns legitimately owned in this country, let alone all the ones “under the radar”, so to speak.”

Tom sighed, “Yeah, I do remember that. Funny how they can stop the outcome of an election when they no longer have to worry about an armed citizenry.”

Yes, I know it is an old story (the UN Small Arms Treaty, in all its forms, not the bit of fiction above), but it appears to be gaining a bit of traction again. We would be well advised to keep an eye on this, along with all the players who would seek to use this to their advantage. “Wiener-gate” is amusing, in a “watching a train-wreck happen” kind of way. But it is stuff like the above which really needs to be monitored.

*UPDATE*

From the good folks at Gun Owners of America, comes the latest on the Obama administrations efforts, via the UN to all but remove your second amendment right.  And dispite all the naunced language, and false promisees, don’t let them fool you for an instant, this is exactly what they have in mind to do.

Could be a long hot summer, and an even warmer fall.

Is Madison Burning?

There is trouble brewing north of the “cheddar curtain”. It seems Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, in taking steps to trim his states hemorrhaging budget, has taken the states employee unions head on. And the unions rank and file have responded with picketing, “strikes”, and other assorted items from their all too predictable bag of tricks.

Drudge has been following this with a massive amount of linkage on the top right of his site. As has Rush, Althouse, and several other prominent bloggers.

Even the Chicago Thug residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, has mumbled about the goings on. One imagines he is concerned about his base being directly effected by their pending loss of benefits. (And if Governor Walker has the set of stones he seems to have, their continued tenure on the state/local payrolls.)

Oh, and if anyone has seen any Wisconsin State Democrat Senators with in the past few hours, would you let the Senate Majority Leader know where they are (or any Wisconsin LEOs)? It seems they have taken a page out of the Texas State Dems handbook. If nothing else, perhaps we could put their faces on the sides of Wisconsin (and perhaps Illinois) milk cartons.

UPDATE:

Oh fer crying out loud:

WIFR, Gateway Pundit, and a host of others, are reporting that the wayward State Senators from Wisconsin were found to have arrived at the third … err fourth … sheesh, fifth largest metropolis in the Great State of Illinois ™ , Rockford. At the Best Western of choice here abouts, the “Clock Tower Resort”
Perhaps after a busy day of dodging their political/civic responsibilities, north of the “cheddar curtain”, they needed some quality time. Maybe downing a beer, or six at the local watering hole in the resort, the Titted errr … TILTED Kilt. Or maybe they, being the progressive Dems that they are, chose to indulge in some water sportsfrolicking at the Clock Tower’s water resort, Coco Keys.

Darn! It seems the local Tea Party folks have chased the errent Senators out of Rockford. Where will they end up next?

Three Faces of Evil

Many of us have been watching events unfold since the tragic shootings occurred out in Arizona. For the past couple of days I have been debating on whether or not I was going to say anything about this.

But after watching the following, things became a lot clearer. My own take follows after the video.

All I can say about the above, is thank you Scott, Steve, and Bill. You are all exactly on the mark with this one. Keep on fighting the good fight, take heart in knowing you are most assuredly NOT alone.

Frankly, up until now, nothing came readily to mind which either had not been said before, or said better, than my feeble bit of wordsmithing would be able to produce. There was also a number of concurrent forces at work when trying to take in what exactly was (and is) going on. All of this tends to muddy (intentionally or otherwise) what is really happening in the days and weeks after one crazed individual acted on what ever events were taking place in his own private hell.

First we have the reality of what happened. A lone, mentally unbalanced individual took to the streets, and when he felt ready, opened fire on a crowd of folks. Within the span of a few short minutes he had taken the lives of six people. A sitting US Congresswoman was also shot, and critically wounded. Amazingly, she is expected to live, although at this point her effecting a complete recovery is known but to her and God. The shooter is currently in custody.

It is suspected the young man is mentally unbalanced. To what degree and in what fashion or fashions would have to be addressed by someone with at least one degree in psychology. This ol’ retired Sailor would simply call him “fucking nuts” and be done with it. It has also been alleged this same young man was not acting out of character. That he was not the stereo-typical “Why he seemed so quiet.” or “He was always so polite, and always on time for his classes.”, kind of guy. Bits and pieces of information (not validated by myself) being reported, indicate he was a mental accident waiting to happen. It should also be noted, he had been known about in Law Enforcement circles, yet (for as of yet unexplained reasons) formal charges were never followed through on.

Secondly, there is the media (of all stripes) going after what legitimately would be considered a national story. “A Sitting US Congresswoman Was Shot in Arizona.” In and of itself, this is their job, to report on events such as these. You might not like the old adage of “If it bleeds, it leads.” but for the most part, that was true. So the media leaping into this with both feet (or, if you prefer, cloven hooves) was not unexpected. However, this is where one of the lines in the sand is supposed to hold these folks in check. The line of “fact checking” and “objectivity”. For what ever the reasons, these two little items, once a mainstay of (at least) the newsrooms of the print media and to a lesser extent, radio and television “reporting”, were not even given a “wink and a nod”. Those puppies were flat out ignored.

Sadly, this is nothing new, add to the mix, all the opinion pieces and editorials, and you have a perfect stew of inaccuracies, innuendo, lies, and liable. All aimed at … not the perpetrator of the events which transpired in Arizona … but at conservatives, “right-wing media pundits and talk show personalities”, and favorite agendas (gun control, “hate speech”, and the “fairness doctrine”, to name a few) which could be made to “dove tail” into their narrative. The stage was set, once “politics” and agendas were thrown into the fray (instead of focusing on the events and facts on hand), for the third ring of this three ringed circus to come into play.

The politicians.

At almost the same time as the media was espousing “their take” on what the “underlying causes” might be, in this “potential national crisis”; the politicians stepped in. Amazingly enough, they echoed what many in the media were saying. If someone was of a more cynical nature than I, you might even suspect the politicians and the media of being in bed with each other. To be fair, there was the “heartfelt remarks of consolation” to the families who had lost loved ones. And all expressed hope their fellow member of the federal legislature would recover from her grievous wounds. But once the perfunctory (or perhaps more properly stated, obligatory) statements were scarcely out of their mouths (or scrolled by on the tele-prompters), the attack in ernest, began.

Forgotten were the facts, ignored was the very civility being bemoaned as having been lost (by “the other side” of course). Instead of being mindful of the grief which at least six families were going through, and the anguish and anxiety a seventh family was dealing with while their loved one was fighting for her life, in the hospital, they all went and prayed at the alter of political expediency.

And so you have as the late Rod Serling would have said:

“Picture if you will. Before you on display, are three pictures … portraits of the same being. However each has a flavor uniquely its own. The first is a cacophony of garish colors, splattered without regard to any reasonable expectation of what might be considered normal. It violates the senses, in that just beyond the seeming chaos there is the fleeting view of something malignant, even diabolic, in nature. The second appears, at first blush, to be quite normal. A reasonable figure, dressed in current fashion of the day … but for the eyes … they are the windows to a non-existant soul. Or at least one which is no longer there, having been sold for access to Olympus or perhaps a seat at Caligula’s latest debauchery. And our final viewing. It is a mound, a mound of flesh. It is “seated” at a trough, in the act of consuming all which is placed before it. Much like the second painting, the eyes are black … empty … soulless. But whereas the second portrait paints a picture of one who has slipped into evil, perhaps duped into believing they were acting in good faith, to provide the people with access to “the truth”, the third portrait shows one who was always, in their heart of hearts, only interested in themselves and what could be gained for them at the expense of others. This evil was always there, it was only a matter of time.

And so fellow traveler, there you have it. Three faces of evil on display, for your viewing pleasure. React in any manner you so chose; avert your eyes, laugh and blithely (pretend) to ignore that which is so keenly in focus before you, or perhaps turn away in disgust and leave, hoping someone else, made of sterner stuff, will take a torch to this offensive display. But understand this; the three faces of evil will not go away unwillingly. Nor will they passively hang on the wall or reside on their easel. They will find their way to your homes, your businesses, your places of worship and recreation, they will make inroads in all of these, as they aspire to their real goal. Your hearts, your minds, your souls. They will not stop, until vanquished by the collective greater good of man, for they do not reside here in “The Twilight Zone”, but in the bright light of day, in the real world … your world. Ignore them at your peril.”
