Spring Has Sprung…

the grass has riz, I wonder where the flowers

I wonder where the flowers is?

`Unknown.

So here we are at the end of April, out in the hinterlands of Northern Illinois.  Baseball is in full swing, the Cubs are above 500., and both the Bulls, and the Blackhawks are in their respective playoffs.  Oh, and it hasn’t snowed for at least 3 days now!

Life in our little hamlet goes on.

Dodged some major weather a week or so back….folks just to our southeast/east of us were not so lucky. An F4 tornado took out a restaurant and a few miles further down the road, another little farming community. It cut quite the swath, by the grace of God, only two people lost their lives.  There have been, and are, ongoing acts of kindness and charity to provide assistance and help to all who were impacted by this storm, from all parts of our county, and from all corners of the state as well.  Makes one feel a bit better about (at least the local version of) humanity.

Life in our little hamlet goes on.

You may have noticed, there is no political commentary, or observations, of either the State or national level anywhere in this post so far.  Yes, I am still an election judge, as long as they see fit to allow me to do so.  And our local exercising of the franchise goes on with no worries about hanging chads or folks voting multiple times…or from the great beyond.  Aside from that, don’t know when I will post about such goings on, at least at the  State/National level.

Frankly, it all flat pisses me off.  No…more than that…it .. the whole mess, from all three branches of government…at all levels beyond the local…they are corrupted beyond repair.  “They”, and there are exceptions, but they are getting harder to find, are all the same.  No longer legitimately looking out for their constituents and or the welfare of this once great nation, they are only looking to either advance the agenda(s) of those who “bought them out” or of their respective political overlords (upper level party hacks) , or to do what is best for themselves.

And to all of them, the Constitution….is a joke.

Our borders are … a joke.

Our (pick any one or all) amendment “rights”… are a joke

Our civilization crumbles around us.  Fueled by the willful ignorance of an ever increasing number of it’s supposed members. And the “any excuse is good enough” mentality which saw Ferguson Mo. go up in flames, and now sees Baltimore heading in the same direction. (Though I will grant, in the case of Baltimore, at it appears they may have some justification for at least protesting….but if they are going to riot…why are they attacking innocent people…and not taking their chances against the agents of the State who ALLEGEDLY caused the concern they are supposedly protesting, in the first place?)

An aging olympiad sauntering towards a sex-change garners massive media attention, while those in power are degrading our ability to prevent (via military and diplomatic means) or at least avert for now, the eruption of war at various “hot spots” around the globe.  And we, for the most part, the public at large…are blissfully unaware as to what is really going on.

Nero isn’t fiddling…he’s using a damn flame thrower.

I have become uncomfortably numb…and it’s better for my health (physical and mental) to focus on what is going on here at home.

I think, from beyond  the grave, the founding fathers are no longer spinning at a high rate of rpms.  They are giving us all the collective finger.   And I can’t say as I blame them.

Hell is paved with good intentions.

Or so the old saying (correctly) goes. This being the case, there must be not only a major housing shortage in the empire of the damned, but a preponderance of progressives as well.

Just a thought, while listening/reading about the current goings on inside the beltway. It seems the Senate has “re-written” the rules as to what constitutes a majority … effectively all but killing off the filibuster as a tool. There were supposed “good intentions” behind this, in reality it was little more than an exercise in exerting control, of grabbing (more) power.

Meanwhile, the Pretender in Chief, in between golf outings and jet setting hither and yon, stopped to deliver a speech commemorating the events of some 150 years ago, at a little place called Gettysburg. A number of folks around the net, and elsewhere, noted the petulant POTUS neglected to include the words “Under God” in quoting Lincoln’s original address. After having been exposed to the former part-time Senator from the People’s Republik of Illinois (“Where our governors make our license plates!” © ), up to the present day, why is this surprising? His past record indicates he has no real affiliation with the Judeo-Christian God, other than lip service and snoozing through the twisted theological ramblings of his “former paster”, on the south side of Chicago. There is a stronger case to be made he is, if not a practicing Muslim, at least via childhood indoctrination, very favorably predisposed to same.

Add to this mix the various rumblings of impeachments (to either the AG, Holder, and or POTUS himself), if one believes the various links provided by Drudge and others. Or the threat of charges (criminal or otherwise) against other members of Obama’s clown car cabinet/administration.

Is it any wonder why so many have given up the ghost as far as blogging goes? Aside from the fact it has become increasingly hard to keep up with what new indiscretion, transgression, or acts of suppression are brought to light with each passing day. There comes a point when it all sends one beyond a sense of surrealism … and straight into the Twilight Zone. (Bypassing the Outer Limits entirely!)

It has past the point of becoming enraged after hearing all of the above, and each new “misadventure” with each passing day.

President is either in direct violation of, is out and out ignoring, or both, any number of sections and or amendments to the Constitution. “Congress and the Senate, after deliberation, follow suit.”

Any number of passed cabinet members and or leaders of the various “alphabet agencies” are alleged/suspected of doing same.

The charge of Treason, as proscribed in the Constitution, has been met or exceeded by any number of the above, up to and including POTUS.

Yet nothing is done. Words are spoken, air is moved, ink (real or virtual) is allowed to dry on paper.

I fear we, as Americans, are far too comfortable, that our standard of living is so high, there is a much longer distance to fall before we become willing to bring about the real change needed to make those who are allowed to govern realize they serve at our pleasure, and not theirs.

My desire to write is returning. Perhaps not so much out of anger, as it is a somewhat sadden bemusement. I am old enough to remember what it was like to live in a time when we at least thought we had some control over our collective destiny? When one thought their vote still mattered (at least outside the city of Chicago and the county of Cook). Where you may have suspected there was some level of corruption going on in government, but that at the end of the day, even those bastards recognized “We are America damn it! And when we recognize a threat to us, our culture, our country, we will stop the internal bickering and collectively kick your ass!”

Heck, file this whole thing as a bit of rambling from an old retired Sailor…trying to get away from good intentions…going straight to “I aim to misbehave!”

Veteran’s Day …

… “Thank You For Your Service”.

For those who have served, it seems we hear these words a lot more often than in decades past. For those currently serving, recently (honorably) discharged, or recently retired, these words are more familiar, something often said since at least the first Gulf War.

There was a time, some thirty years ago, or longer, these words were not heard at all. Instead, often times if a civilian happened to notice you were in the military, you would have been greeted with words of another sort. “Baby killer”, “Imperialist”, “War Monger”, are just a few which come to mind. There were others.

The more nuanced response, perhaps from “friends”, family members, or other acquaintances, would evolve into a “discussion” centering around “Why”. “Why would someone of your character, intelligence, talents, chose to embrace (for however long a time) military service?” “Were you not aware of all the other educational opportunities available (to someone like you)?” Or (particularly if it was currently, a Republican administration in the White House), “How can you serve under such a ‘regime’?” As if the President was specifically ordering me (or your fellow military member) to commit some heinous crime in his name.

To be clear, we are not talking about those who had honest questions. (What is it like on a ship at sea? What is the training like? Can an Officer really make you do anything, if he gives you an order to do so?) There are many aspects of life in the military which those who haven’t served would not have any real idea what it was like… or perhaps would base their assumptions on what they have seen on a tv show or movie. So legitimate questions were never a concern, and not what I am trying to address here.

So, forgive this ol’ retired Sailor, if I find at least some of those who offer a “Thank you for your service”, to perhaps being a bit disingenuous. From the various media talking heads, political figures and bureaucrats, right on down to some of those folks in our respective villages, cities, and towns. Would they be saying this at all, if it wasn’t the “politically correct” thing to do?

After all, most of these folks would see the military shrunk to little or nothing, if they had any direct choice in the matter. They would have no problem with voting in individuals who have little or no respect to that which all members of the military repeatedly swear an oath of allegiance to…the Constitution of the United States. And how many are, in their heart of hearts, of a like mind to that expressed in Kipling’s little ditty?
Indeed, the current administration, even while sending troops hither and yon, has exhibited little more than contempt for the health and welfare of those currently serving, let alone for those who have honorably gone before.

I guess I am still a little gun shy when a “Thank you for your service.” is sent in my direction. Don’t know if I blush anymore when hearing it, but it still gives one pause. Hell, I was just doing my job (hopefully, to the best of my ability). Wasn’t really expecting any thanks. Just the chance, when the time came, to be allowed to assimilate back into (the civilian) society, and have that which was promised (by the government) upon honorable completion of service, delivered.

If you really want to thank a vet…donate time to any of the many charitable organizations out there. Failing that, send em a buck or two, so they can continue to do the fine work they do, for those who have served or are currently serving. (The USO, Wounded Warrior Project, Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society, just to name a few.) This is the kind of thing which really says thank you…thank you for your service.

Finally, to those I have served with, and those whose paths have crossed with mine via the internet, that have…or are serving…hope today, Veteran’s Day, was one in which you were able to spend time remembering shipmates, brothers-in-arms, fellow aircrew, along with friends and family members who have worn the uniform. And if possible, have let them know they are not forgotten.

It Ain’t Guns, Knives, Laws, or Proclamations Killing People

I am an old gamer.  Started playing the “pencil and paper” version of “Dungeons and Dragons” back in the early 80’s, and have been hooked ever since.  What does this have to do with the events of the past few years both nationally and world-wide (including the tragedy which took place in Connecticut, and more recently, Boston)?   Give me a second or two and I will try and explain.

One of the facets of  the “Dungeons and Dragons” (hereafter mentioned as “D&D”) universe is how it brakes down the moral/ethical standings of each character you might happen to develop.  Tow of these categories  specifically come into play when we look at what is going on around us, along with what has been taking place over (at least) the post 9/11 era:

Lawful Evil  Characters of this alignment see a well-ordered system as being easier to exploit, and show a combination of desirable and undesirable traits; while they usually obey their superiors and keep their word, they care nothing for the rights and freedoms of other individuals and are not averse to twisting the rules to work in their favor.

“But this comes from  a fantasy game, what in the wide, wide world of sports does this have to do with the real world?”

Glad you asked that Sparky, sometimes even games may provide insights as to what drives man to do what he  does.  So here are  a couple of examples to prove my point.

It is no secret, to those who happen to drop by here, that I am strongly opposed to Islam.  It is a malignancy which masks it’s true intent under the guise of “religion”.  And yes, there are most certainly good people who are  followers of the “faith”.  However, one would suspect they are doing so because of expediency, ignorance, or stupidity/naiveté …. what other reason could there be, assuming your nature was “good”  to begin with?

Anyhow, back to the point I am trying to make.  Islam is a beautiful example of what could (or should) be considered “Lawful Evil”.  There are specific rules, guidelines, and regulations which all are required to follow.  You may be able to “get away” with not following some of these, especially if you are in some position of power and or authority within the particular sect you adhere to, but if someone else is in a position to challenge you or has power over you, this may be called into play,  and your indiscretions  could cost you.

Perhaps an example a bit closer to home is in order.  Okay, how about the Senate and Congress, a large chunk of the Judicial, and most (if not all) of the Executive branch.  Yep, talking about the Federal Government.  Oh, and let”s  not forget about all the alphabet agencies and the government bureaucracy at large.   Much like the first example, there are some who are honestly trying to do “good”, or are “good people”, but more and more, logic dictates they would fall under the same categories as the so called “good Muslim”…. expedient, ignorant, or stupid/naive.  And yes, I am calling the government, as it stands (others would say it has been this way for quite some time, and they very well may not be wrong) , Lawful Evil.

The above are just two examples, done without breaking a sweat.  There are others.  Trade unions…hell, unions in general comes to mind, that meet the requirements for this brand of Evil.  I am sure you could think of more.

Now let’s look at;

Chaotic Evil  Characters of this alignment tend to have no respect for rules, other people’s lives, or anything but their own desires, which are typically selfish and cruel. They set a high value on personal freedom, but do not have any regard for the lives or freedom of other people.

Any serial killer, assassin,  or “crazed gunman”, up to and including Adam Lanza would fall into this category.  Arguably there could be a few heads of state here as well.  Here you will find the misfits, loners,  malcontents,  The Narcissist, (yeah, that Narcissist)   More importantly (though it may be  something only admitted to themselves.  In the darkness of the pit where their soul should have normally resided) they find some sort of perverse pleasure in seeing others brought to some level of physical or emotional pain.  It is random senseless Evil.  With no apparent logic or grand design behind it….Evil purely for the sake of evil.

The two alignments, may be easily used to “profile” most, if not all, of the horrific acts of violence which have gain national prominence over the course of the last 40-50 years.  You can take all the players involved and they (and or their groups) will fall under one of the above alignments.

Adam  Lanza: Chaotic Evil.

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev: Lawful Evil

Jeffrey Dahmer, John Gacy, Timothy McVeigh: all Chaotic Evil

Most of the current administration, cabinet members, the majority of the directors of the various alphabet agencies, and at least half of the members of SCOTUS: Lawful Evil.  (To be fair on this one, you should also include most of the members of both Houses, and a good chunk of all the above in almost all administrations going back at least 100 years.)

Which brings us to the title of tonight’s post.

It isn’t the availability of fire arms.  For, time and time again, those of an evil nature and or intent, will find a way to acquire same if they feel the need to do so.  Take away the firearms, knives, clubs, arrows, rocks and stones, would still be available, And failing that, there is always brute force.   No, guns are not the real concern here.

It isn’t the lack of (constitutionality of any and all of them put aside for the moment) laws.  We have more gun laws and “legal” restrictions placed upon us (you know, the law abiding folk) in the process of trying to procure same.  There are numerous  laws addressing potential abuse/violence, not only against individuals (women, gays, police, teachers, public officials) but groups as well.  Everything from “orders of protection”, to the added charges of “a hate crime”, and “aggravated ______”.   These will not stop those who are well and truly bent on carrying out their acts.

The same thing goes for all the  “drug free, gun free, smoke free, and any other “free zone” placed into effect via proclamation (and or law).  How many schools (at all levels) have been kept safe and secure purely on the basis of them being “gun free and or violence free zones”?  How many (especially at the upper echelons) constantly observe the “smoke free environment” of the office (or more informally, the campus) they are on?   And “drug free zones” in public schools (especially at any major metro school district)…you can not be that naive, can you?

It is not any of these things which are killing people. And none of the above, are in any great measure, preventing people from being killed.

It is the content and quality of the character of all the perpetrators which is the root cause. Character matters. Evil does exist. And the sooner people wake up and realize this, and take realistic action against same, then the first steps will have been taken to return our society and with any luck at all, our nation back into something our forefathers would not only recognize, but be proud to have given birth to.

Left, Right, and Center

Enough of this already.

Those on the left have their agenda(s).  There are any number on the right who do so as well.  Then there are the folks in the middle…the so called “moderates”…those who, at least as a group, appear to be asking; “Can’t we all just get along?”

There is enough blame for how things have arrived to where they are now, shared by all sides; left, right, and center.  And none of them are really offering any sort of honest and or realistic solution to the many concerns this country is challenged with at this point in time.

Do I have all the answers?

Hell no.  Heck, I am  not even sure of some of the questions.

However, it would seem to me if we adhered to at least some of the following, we would eventually arrive closer to where the majority of folks really want to be…or would at least be comfortable with same.

1.  Follow the Constitution, as written.

This is suppose to be the legitimate framework with which everything else evolves from.  So follow the damn thing already.  Not because it happens to agree with your (or your group, party, agency[s], particular agenda at the moment, but because it IS the binding document all are supposed to work under.   If you don’t like the rules, either go about the proper ways set forth in said document, to change same, or failing that, get out of “this club” and go somewhere else.

If you are a member of the government (be it civil or military), at some point or another you took an oath to either protect and defend same, or at the very least to be honor bound in following it’s proscribed tenets.  To do anything less should be cause for, at  a minimum, immediate dismissal from your position, at at most being hung from the neck until dead. (Other modes of “permanent dismissal” are optional, this was just the first which came to mind.)  That we have any number of current office holders (regardless of party affiliation) who have acted, or are currently acting in manners that in the past would have been considered treasonous…but are now looked at as little more than “business as usual  keeps my blood pressure at levels that are at best unhealthy.

2.  Leave me alone…and get the hell off of my lawn!!

In other words, keep your nose out of other people’s business, as long as it doesn’t impact you, your family, or friends.  We used to pride ourselves as being a nation where independence of spirit, and self reliance, were admirable qualities.  That one’s ultimate goal was to be “a self-made man”.   You might be accepting of charity (The real deal, not the faux version better known as “government assistance”.)  but you made damn sure you paid those who helped you out back at the very least as much as was given.  In turn, if your neighbor had fallen on hard times, you helped out when you could to get them back on their feet.  You might also be tolerant of your neighbor(s) idiosyncrasies as long as they were not negatively impacting you and yours, as they would be of yours.

So when did we become a nation of busybodies?  A land of Mrs. Kravitz-ies…your grass is too high….your flag flies too often…your garden/farm produces too much of the wrong kind of produce.  You can not sell untreated dairy products to the masses… your smoke is polluting my air (outside no less)…and the list goes on.

In short, most folks just want to be left alone.  We don’t want the State (be it federal. state, or local)  interfering with our lives and or our businesses.  Personally, the next political or media type who utters the words; “It’s for your own best interests!”, or, “But it’s for the children!”, should be tarred and feathered, and promptly run out of town, on a rail.  And that is if I am in a good mood at the time.

3.  Take care of yourself, and if applicable, your family and friends.

Charity should begin at home and to the local community.  Used to be you belonged to a church,  community group, or perhaps to some fraternal organization (Knights of Columbus, Masons, Elks, etc) which had as part of their activities, some sort of charitable arm.  These were in place to help those who may have fallen on hard times, or help rebuild the community should some sort of calamity effect same (tornado, flood, etc).  And, as mentioned above, the “faux charity” currently pushed at all levels of government, is anything but.

This is as good a start as any. I imagine you can think of a couple more.  There will be more on this (and related topics/issues) to come.   Comments, as always are welcome.

It Has Been Some Time …

… since I last posted.

And any number of reasons may be behind this. But I think it is time to shake the dust off the old girl, and at least try to have a go of it again.

Change

Most everyone is saying change is a coming. Doesn’t matter which side of the political fence you are on, one way or another, things are not going to remain the same.

It has been a long time in coming, but as noted here, and elsewhere, it is not like we haven’t seen that the path we were on was not going to lead us to anywhere but where we are right now. There is no need to go into details…you are either well aware of what persons, actions, incidents, or combinations of all the above brought us here; or you are blissfully unaware … following the capricious winds of chance and fate … letting them take you where they will. After all, your “mom and dad” are in the White House, and if you haven’t grown up by now, at the very least thinking about taking something akin to taking responsibility for yourself and your actions, why on earth should you start now. Thinking is soooo 20th century.

So here we are, halfway through the first quarter of the 21st century. The people have been conditioned enough to believe it is the duty of their government (there is that pesky “mom and dad” thing again) to grant their every wish. Free health care? Poof! There ya go, no problem! Want your particular race, religion, creed, and or gender to be considered not merely equal, to what was once “the norm”, but given preferential treatment or status. (Does anyone in the business of mental health and or the study of man/civilizations even consider there to be a “norm” anymore? A bar or standard set to which all else was measured … and heaven forbid perhaps being found to be different, or worse. wanting?)

The language is being dissected to the point where, for any number of reasons, clarity of thought presented via the printed page, is allowed … demanded, to be muddled. Words are banned from use. (Even if they have been used quite correctly up to this point. Try using the word “niggardly“, properly, in conversation and see what happens.) Those not banned are at any given time, bent and messaged to suit the needs of the player (mis)using them.

But enough is enough. The story nears it’s end. The country I grew up in, the values, spirit, and most of the underpinnings which kept it all together, are either long gone or have become discarded rusted out relics. Whatever happens next to the country at large, or various parts of this country, may be commented on here, but there will not be any major pontificating. Certainly there will be no hard and fast information about my preparations (or lack thereof) against the coming storm. The internet is not, and never has been a place of private fire-side chats. All the world can see what has been said (or shown) with little or no effort. The governments need even less to pry.

One last thought before closing this particular rant.

California Murderer Cop, A Staunch Democrat, Clinton and Feinstein supporter!

Perhaps the place of “home grown media” is to be the one(s) who trail just behind the journalistic Caesars, whispering in their collective ears; “Respice post te! Hominem te memento!” (Look behind you! Remember that you are but a man!”). And here again is a case of the media giants freely editing a story in order to meet their own agendas, the facts be damned. The real irony here; those on the net are doing what the media was tasked to do. Keep an eye and an ear on those in power, and pass this along to the public in order that we would know (and hopefully, remember) their excesses, and abuses of power and privilege … along with their successes…when it came time to place our ballets.

Now we have to monitor the monitors.
